Creating space in your home

It doesn't seem to matter how big your house is, there is a Murphy's Law that states that your will fill up any space you have available no matter how many square feet that is. The most obvious and expensive way to create space in your home is to add on a room. If you are looking to avoid this kind of expense then what can you do?

Clutter is one thing that takes away space in our houses. Get rid of as much as you can, it is amazing how much more space you will have when you aren't hoarding. Empty closets and if you don't have closet organizers consider installing them. There is a lot of wasted space in every closet and if you have an organizer you can utilize all the available space effectively.

Get things off the floor. Shelving can really make you feel like you have more space and you will have more floor space. Those piles of magazines and books will look more attractive and take a lot less space if they are on a wall shelf.

Use the space under the bed. It's there, it's empty, it's a waste of some great space. Anything that you can store under your bed isn't taking up valuable space somewhere else. This space is great for storing off-season clothes, a container of books or just about anything that will pit in that space.

Downscale the size of your furniture. If you room is feeling crowded and you feel as if you have no space? Maybe you have too much furniture in your room or it may be that your furniture is just too big. If your king size bed is taking up three-quarter of your bedroom, maybe it is time to go down to a queen size. If you have a dresser that is long then maybe you need to go with one that is taller and takes less floor space.

In the living room, you may want to cut down on the number and size of your tables and even your sofa and/or chairs. If you have a coffee table in the center of your room you may want to move it to the wall or perhaps remove it all together. In the dining room, you may want to bring your table down to its smallest size by removing all the leaves. Get a flat screen TV and mount it on the wall, this allows you to remove the large piece of furniture that may be holding it now.

If you really are desperate for more space, if you have a basement or a garage, either one of these can be converted into usable space. If you tackle the project on your own, the cost can be kept to a reasonable amount.

When it comes to space, we are always trying to create more. Using just a few strategies can help you to make the space that you have seem larger and more open. Consider having a garage sale to get rid of some of the items that have been taking up space in your house.
