Dried corn stalks
Dried corn stalks are available at many garden centers in the fall and they work well attached to a light post in your yard or in a corner of your porch. With the addition of some pumpkins and gourds, you have a great seasonal decoration that will last from September through late November. They combine very nicely with other flowers and plants.
Mums
Mums are great plants to introduce into your yard in the fall. Some mums will return year after year but most will only last through the fall season and must be replanted yearly. The good news is, even if you are not much of a gardener, mums can be your favorite fall flower. They don’t even need to be planted in the ground, you can place them with their pots inside of planter or just sitting on a step or a railing. Mums come in all the colors of the fall, rust, gold, burgundy and mixes of the three. Different varieties have different flowers which you can mix and match.
Seasonal flag
Flags come in several different sizes that you can place in your yard, hang from the house or in your flower bed. These add a great seasonal look to the front of your house and the porch. You can change them as often as you like for a different look.
Pumpkins
Pumpkins are part of almost everyone’s fall decor. They come in sizes from the tiniest to the truly huge. The tiny ones are great to place on a window sash or jam or on the rail of your porch. The larger ones can be placed lining the porch stairs or flanking the stairs. They also can be added to your corn stalks for a pretty vignette.
Baskets
Baskets are a great way to hold the fall bounty and display it in your front yard or on your porch. You can combine small pumpkins with gourds and mums. Choose baskets that are weather proof so that they don’t fall apart since the fall weather can be quite rainy and windy. Wagon or wheelbarrow.
If you have a child's red wagon or a wheelbarrow, this is the perfect place to showcase your fall bounty. Combining all the elements of fall decor in one spot with perhaps the addition of some brightly colored leaves will be something you can be proud of and will not require a great deal of expense.
Wreath
Your door needs to have some sort of a decoration. It can be a scarecrow, a wreath of fall flowers and mini gourds or just one that highlights the colors of the season with ribbons and flowers. A grapevine wreath with a pretty bow is a simple way to say welcome.
Fence
If you have a fence don't forget to decorate it as well. You can use Indian corn and fall ribbons or bright fall colored lights that glow every night; Little lanterns that hang off the fence are also an attractive touch.
Fall in a great time to decorate your front porch and your front yard. Use some things that you have and add fall favorites. With a few simple additions, you will have a home that is both attractive and welcoming. The bounty of nature at this time of year is full of color, take advantage of it to do outdoor fall decorating.
